Veerhaven
Yesterday was the last meeting of my photography course. This time we had to photograph a specific part of Rotterdam, being the ‘Veerhaven’. This is an old, small and picturesque harbour of Rotterdam. The idea was that everybody visits roughly the same area and everybody chooses a different subject and has his own way of photographing a subject.
For example, there was a very unique clock that was photographed by different people, each in their own unique way. A real eye-opening experience. I did not take a picture of that clock (I selected a different part of the harbour to do my shooting) but some people managed to get great shot from things I ‘dismissed’ as a subject.
The picture I took is from an old warehouse that has been fully restored and rebuild as an apartment building. I specifically included this part of the text as it says something about the history of the building: “Hollands Veem” (translates as “Dutch Storehouse”).
André Nijenhuis, the person teaching the photography course, also placed this picture on his website. Now the course has finished I would really like to recommend André to you. This course, creative photography for beginners, really triggered my awareness, my view on subjects. Although I have a long way to go from here, I think it has been a great start. If you are living in Rotterdam or in the neighborhood and looking for a photography course consider his’. It is great value for money and you definitely start looking differently after this course!
